Our monastery is located in rural southwest France, between Angouleme and Bordeaux. The Benedictine Order goes back 1500 years; our sisters have been at Maumont for 40 years. We have provided links for Charente, the Church, etc.
Our main activity is ? Prayer. We gather for worship in the church seven times a day, and we try to practice continual, personal prayer while we work. You can listen to selections of our sung prayer, which is at the heart of our monastic life.
The monastery has a strong connection with the Church. Our mission includes prayer, hospitality, our monastic foundation in Guinea, and our extended spiritual family of oblates.
50 women living together : what a challenge !
The monastic community is not a nice club of like-minded people, not a spiritual support group and not a refuge, where safety is reinforced by conformity.
Our unity comes from God, through our daily life and work: We pray together, in the monastic Office and the Eucharist.
We work together, earning our living and serving one another in community (kitchen, infirmary, etc.)
We welcome guests, including women exploring a call to share our life. We try to help others, both near and far, through prayer; hospitality; sharing donations of clothing, medicine and money with the needy and with Church missions, as well as offering our lives for the benefit of humanity.
